Forty-six beaches and two marinas are currently flying the Blue Flag, a symbol of quality and sustainable management of coasts. This recognition highlights Cyprus’s commitment to maintaining high environmental standards along its stunning coastline, as reported by the Cyprus Marine Environment Protection Association (Cymepa).
The Blue Flag programme is managed by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) and operates in over 50 countries globally. It is renowned for its stringent criteria, which assess factors such as the quality of bathing waters, environmental management, safety, and the availability of services.
Blue flag: Locations of Awarded Beaches
Among the 46 awarded beaches in Cyprus, a significant concentration can be found in Famagusta, which boasts 27 Blue Flag beaches. Other regions include Larnaca and Limassol, each with three beaches, while Paphos is home to 13. The two marinas that have received this prestigious award are Limassol Marina and Ayia Napa Marina.
Access for Everyone
Cymepa has placed a strong emphasis on accessibility, ensuring that at least one beach per municipality is equipped to support visitors with disabilities. Out of the 46 Blue Flag beaches, 25 offer specialised facilities designed for those facing mobility challenges, allowing safe access to the sea.
Among these accessible beaches, 16 are situated in Famagusta, three in Larnaca, two in Limassol, and four in Paphos. Notably, eight beaches feature the innovative Seatrac system, enabling individuals with mobility issues to enter the water independently.

The Blue Flag award is not just about aesthetics; it reflects a broader commitment to environmental stewardship and public safety. The programme promotes education and awareness about sustainable practices, encouraging both locals and tourists to appreciate and protect the coastal environment.
