Luxury hospitality: A New Era for Cyprus
As the realms of luxury hospitality and lifestyle branding intertwine, destinations are vying for the attention of not just tourists, but also the creative class. Industry professionals assert that Cyprus is carving out a space as a destination suitable for hosting international fashion and lifestyle projects, alongside its rich offerings for traditional tourism.
Collaboration Spotlight: Kingfisher Couture
A recent partnership between London-based designer Ross Griffiths, founder of House of Kingfisher, and the King Jason Paphos resort exemplifies this trend. This collaboration went beyond the scope of a typical editorial shoot. Alexandra Blake from Kingfisher Couture shared with the Cyprus Mail that the project was about building relationships and fostering creative exchanges, ultimately creating what she describes as an “international creative bridge.”
Transforming Spaces into Experiences
The campaign, which took place in April and featured model Katrina Morgan, reimagined parts of the resort as a live editorial fashion environment. Unlike standard shoots that merely use hotels as backdrops, this project integrated the resort’s architecture, landscaped gardens, and Mediterranean vistas into its visual narrative.
The resulting imagery blended couture styling with the island’s relaxed atmosphere, showcasing a version of Cyprus that emphasises experience, lifestyle, and design over conventional tourism marketing. Key elements such as poolside terraces, warm stone architecture, and the enchanting evening light became central to the campaign’s visual identity.
A Unique Position in the Fashion Landscape
For Griffiths, whose past work includes stints at London Fashion Week and celebrity styling, Cyprus offers an appealing alternative to the traditional European fashion capitals. “Cyprus has an energy, beauty, and atmosphere that translates perfectly through fashion and visual storytelling,” he remarked.
Hotels as Lifestyle Destinations
The timing of this collaboration coincides with a broader trend where hotels are redefining themselves as lifestyle destinations. They are becoming venues for creative productions, fashion campaigns, and brand launches. Blake noted that this shift was a significant draw for Kingfisher Couture’s interest in Cyprus.
“Our goal has always been to create something authentic and thoughtful,” she said, emphasising how fashion, hospitality, and creative production can coexist in ways that enrich both the hotel and the local community. The collaboration is also indicative of growing confidence in Cyprus as a location for international creative projects.
Emerging as a Luxury Lifestyle Destination
While countries like Italy, France, and Greece have historically dominated the Mediterranean luxury market, supporters of this initiative believe Cyprus is starting to cultivate its own distinct identity within this sector.
Blake pointed out that the campaign contributes to the narrative of Cyprus as an emerging destination for luxury lifestyle and fashion. She emphasised that successful destinations need luxury accommodation, visual appeal, and year-round accessibility — qualities that Cyprus possesses.
Experiential Storytelling
A key part of the campaign’s allure lies in its focus on merging tourism with storytelling. Instead of a conventional fashion shoot that could occur anywhere, the creative team designed the concept around the experience of being in Cyprus.
Blake elaborated, “The shoot was conceptualised as a location-led editorial, integrating the architecture and environment of King Jason Paphos into the visual narrative.” This approach aligns with the growing interest in destination-led fashion experiences among luxury travellers seeking cultural and design-driven engagements.
Looking Ahead: Future Collaborations
The collaboration with Kingfisher Couture has already sparked discussions about future projects, including plans for a private fashion show at the King Jason Paphos, contingent upon final approvals. Blake reassured that great care is being taken to respect the guest experience while aligning the concept with the hotel’s ethos.
Beyond this one campaign, the individuals involved view their collaboration as part of a larger initiative to strengthen ties between Cyprus’ tourism sector and creative professionals in the UK. “There exists a largely untapped market for hospitality in Cyprus within creative production,” Blake noted. “The island possesses the environment, atmosphere, and potential to become a significant destination for future international collaborations.”
Cyprus: Beyond Traditional Tourism
Renowned for its rich history, stunning beaches, and warm hospitality, Cyprus is now positioning itself as a dynamic destination where new cultural and commercial links with markets like the UK are forming. Supporters are optimistic that the island’s scenic beauty, robust infrastructure, and luxury accommodations could pave the way for its emergence as a hub for fashion, lifestyle, and creative production.
